Will the Carens EV Adopt the Same Powertrain as Creta Electric?
Kia is preparing to launch the all-electric version of its Carens MPV, known as the Carens Clavis EV, on July 15, 2025. This will be Kia’s first electric vehicle in India designed and built entirely for local buyers, unlike its earlier EV6 and EV9 models which were imported.

The Carens Clavis EV will be manufactured at Kia’s facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
The new electric MPV is expected to use a 51.4 kWh battery pack, which is the same one offered in the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric. Hyundai offers two battery options with the Creta EV—42 kWh and 51.4 kWh—delivering ARAI-rated ranges of 390 km and 473 km, respectively. However, Kia claims that the Carens EV could offer a slightly better range of around 490 km, even though it shares the same battery. This could be due to small software or efficiency optimizations, though the Carens is a larger and heavier vehicle.
Powering the Carens Clavis EV is likely the same single front-mounted motor used in the Creta Electric. This motor produces around 171 PS of power and 255 Nm of torque. While these numbers are more than sufficient for urban and highway driving, the Carens' larger size might slightly affect real-world range and performance compared to the Creta.
Charging support will include 11 kW AC charging, which can fully charge the battery in around 4.5 hours, and 50 kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in under an hour. The car is also expected to support vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) power-sharing features, allowing owners to charge other devices or even other electric vehicles.
Visually, the Carens EV retains the same overall design as the petrol and diesel models, with a few updates. These include a closed-off front grille, EV-specific bumpers, new alloy wheels designed to reduce drag, and a repositioned charging port. Inside, the cabin is expected to offer dual 12.3-inch displays—one for the digital instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system—along with a floating center console and updated materials.
Top variants will likely include premium features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and a Bose sound system. Safety features could include six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist, and rear parking sensors.
As for pricing, the Carens EV is expected to start at around ₹17–18 lakh, with higher-end versions going up to ₹25–26 lakh (ex-showroom). This would put it in competition with electric models like the upcoming BYD e6 Max 7 and other future three-row EVs.
Kia seems to be taking a practical approach with the Carens Clavis EV—reusing proven components like the Creta’s powertrain, adding everyday features, and keeping pricing competitive for larger families looking to go electric.
